Kids
It is well recognised that all children benefit from some type of orientation before starting kindergarten. For many, this occurs in preschool and focuses on familiarising children with school routines as well as introducing pre-literacy skills.
For those with additional needs, this process is even more crucial to ensuring a happy and positive start to school life. For some, continued support may be required throughout their primary and secondary years.
Emma has a very team-oriented approach and recognises that any intervention and support must include not only students but their families and teachers as well.

Assessments
Not all children will need an OT assessment however if required, children can be assessed while they play, from clinical observations and parent and/or teacher questionnaires as well as standardised assessments. Assessments may occur in the clinic, at home, in preschool or school. Written reports and verbal feedback are supplied as part of the assessment. Recommendations will be made as to ongoing therapy or suggestions for the family, preschool or school.
Common assessments include:
- Sensory processing
- Gross motor coordination
- Fine-motor coordination
- Handwriting
- Visual perception
- Assistive Technology
- Play skills
- Attention in the classroom and school function
- Daily living skills such as eating, toileting and dressing
